Marielle Gomez is Always Running Ahead
Dear Friends -- Let me tell you about Marielle Gomez! On a recent afternoon at the University of Redlands, sophomore and cross country and track athlete, Marielle paused from her busy life to reflect on her journey.
Raised in Taos, and with the traditions of both her Taos Pueblo and French heritage, Marielle is deeply connected to land and community. The embodiment of conservation, creativity and boundless possibility, Marielle is making the most of her time at Redlands — in addition to athletics, she’s double majoring in Environmental Science and Studio Art.
That’s hardly a surprise. At 10 years old, Marielle founded the Taos Eco Kids Club, leading activities like trash clean-ups and butterfly tagging workshops. She also led conservation lectures with the Bureau of Land Management. All the while her dedication to conservation grew alongside her artistic interests.
Marielle’s journey is supported by her amazing parents Bruce and Anne-Marie Emanuelli, and by scholarships she discovered with Bridges’ help — aid that makes it possible for her to pursue her dreams without overwhelming financial stress.
“Bridges was there when I needed to organize my college application process,” she recalls. “They provided me with resources, guidance, and the confidence to aim for higher education.”
Marielle’s future includes grad school and, maybe, a career in hands-on conservation work. She’s inspired to explore new perspectives and bring her knowledge back to New Mexico. This spring she’ll study in Salzburg, Austria.
